1988 Starline John Elway Trading Card Prototype
In the late 1980’s Poster Giant Starline, Inc. made an attempt to break into the sports trading card market. Their first step was to produce prototypes for the various leagues. These prototypes were distributed to league execs and potential customers who would possibly do a trading card promotion. The rarest of these prototypes were the NFL issues. Starline issued about 300 pieces of 4 different players (John Elway, Joe Montana, Bernie Kosar and Phil Simms). They are extremely limited pieces and do not appear for sale very often.
